Easy to install

FireNET™ is the easy and cost-effective way to achieve high-speed 400Mbps connectivity between two or more PCs. Do a quick, one-time software installation, plug in the FireWire cable to the built-in port of each PC and you're up and running! There are no hubs or routers, making it simpler to install and manage than other conventional networks.

Two networks

FireNET™ and Ethernet can coexist in the same environment. For example, now a graphic artists group can have their own PGN (Private Graphics Network), allowing them to transfer large graphics files without slowing down the entire Ethernet network.

No new interface to learn

FireNET™ uses the same familiar interfaces on Windows and Macintosh. Plus, users can now share files, printers, hard disk drives, and use the network security system and any other supported network facilities.

Compatibility

FireNET™ is a full Ethernet emulation network and works seamlessly with all existing Ethernet-compatible software and hardware.

FireNET™ supports all of the standard Ethernet protocols, including TCP/IP, NetBEUI, IPX/SPX, and AppleTalk. It is a cross-platform networking solution, meaning that it supports both Windows and Macintosh OS, operating smoothly regardless of the platform(s) in use. Of course, mixed (PC and MAC) networks are supported.

FireNET™ Software can be shipped together with FireBoards (Unibrain’s FireWire PCI adapters or CardBus cards) as well as with FireWire cables (available in 2m, 4,5m and 10m lengths) and repeaters.

After conducting a "real world" file transfer test using the built-in (FireWire, Gigabit Ethernet) ports on two Pentium 4's (1.7GHz, 512 RAM, 60GbHDD - 7200rpm), the following results were retrieved:

After conducting a "real world" file transfer test (test file: 600MB) using the built-in (FireWire, Gigabit Ethernet) ports on two PowerMac™ G4's (867MHz, 512 RAM, 60GbHDD-7200rpm), and the new Mac OSX 10.2 "Jaguar", the following results were retrieved: Now FireNET™ (for Jaguar OS) is up to 27% faster! After testing FireNET™ for Jaguar OS, it proved to be equally fast in both read and write speeds at 23MB/sec, and faster up to 27% (at read). The OS used for this test was Mac OS X ver. 10.1.x and ver. 10.2. An earlier OS version (ie. OS 9.x) would result in significantly poorer performance.
